PLEASE NOTE that, as of April 3, 2006, the Advanced Book
Exchange (Abebooks) has unilaterally decreed that all books ordered through its
website, where payment is to be made by credit card, will be processed by
Abebooks, and not by the individual bookseller.
Why is this change of importance to the book buyer? Because Abebooks will be
charging booksellers a commission of 5.5% on each credit card transaction
processed through its web site and, in addition, will withhold the net proceeds
of sale from booksellers for two weeks, or more, without paying interest on the
funds so withheld. This commission, by the way, is in addition to an 8%
commission on sale proceeds previously imposed by Abebooks, and a monthly
listing fee.
Greenfield Books, like most professional booksellers, already has in place
facilities for accepting credit cards, at a commission rate of less than 2%, and
with immediate payment of funds.
It is inevitable, therefore, that the additional fees imposed by Abebooks, on
booksellers who choose to list their books with that database, will be passed on
to the book buyer.
That is why we prefer, if you see our books on Abebooks, that you place your
order with us directly. By doing so, you will not only help us, but help all
on-line book buyers to keep down the costs of buying books on-line..
Thank you.
