This is a variant fourth, revised, edition (first edition published 1839).
Hallam (1777-1859) was an Oxford-educated historian who, with inherited
wealth, was able to devote himself to writing. Pagination: vol. I pp. [xxiii],
469; vol. II pp. [xi], 446; vol. III [x], 442; vol. IV [viii], 406. Blind
rules to leather, spine in compartments with gilt ornamentation, raised
bands and
morocco labels. Each volume shows
minor rubbing to bds. and edges but
nothing untoward or excessive.
Hinges and joints all strong. Contents sl. age-toned at edges; else very
clean. A very nice looking set - presents well on the shelf and in very
good overall condition.
