HOWELLS, William Dean. VENETIAN LIFE with Illustrations from Original
Water Colors. Lovely two volume set bound in 3/4 deep maroon crushed
morocco. Published by Houghton, Mifflin and Company, Boston and New
York, 1896. 12mo, pp. 279, 287. Originally published in 1866, this is
the new edition, with an introduction contributed by Howells in 1891.
With exquisite water colour illustrations by Childe Hassam, Ross Turner
and others. Purple moire silk covered boards, spine in
compartments with gilt lettering and ornamentation, t.e.g., marbled eps.
The binding and appearance of this little set is a feast for the eye.
Only the most minor of flaws: sl. bumping to one corner of vol. II, and
very slight abrasion to top corners of bds., else in near fine
condition.
