Scarce Dr. Seuss classic

SEUSS, Dr., HOW THE GRINCH STOLE CHRISTMAS! Random House, New York City. 1957, hb, 4to. Library of Congress Catalog number on copyright page:57-7526. Paper covered boards are orange, green and white. The inside front dust jacket flap shows 295/295 on the bottom right corner. Two blank pages at rear separated by page on which is printed: "Other books by Dr. Seuss" (13 titles listed). Rear panel of dust jacket has b&w photo of Dr. Seuss and states: "Dr. Seuss has written and illustrated 16 books (up to now!)", and then lists 14 titles (Yertle the Turtle to How the Grinch Stole Christmas) and two Beginner Books (The Cat in the Hat and The Cat in the Hat Comes Back). The Random House address at the bottom states New York 22 (i.e. no zip code). Two half title pages before and after title page. The dust jacket is lightly scuffed and a bit worn at the crown and foredges. There are two small (1/4") closed tears at the bottom. There is a small ink notation ("236" with "250" stroked out) near the bottom of the inside front flap, as well as a crease to the top right corner. Overall, the dust jacket is in good plus condition. The book itself is in near fine condition, with only the slightest rubbing to the corners. There are four or five small (almost unnoticeable) dents to the rear board. The hinges are tight. On the top right corner of the first half title page there is just the faintest trace of a penciled price having been erased. Otherwise, there are no names, scribblings or markings of any kind to the endpapers or the contents. The blank pages are snowy white and it appears that the book has been little handled over the last 44 years. We believe the book to be a first edition, first state, and the dust jacket to be a first edition, second state. Additional digital photos are available in response to serious inquiries.
